CLAREMONT, Calif. – May 20, 2015 – The 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games Organizing Committee, Inc. (LA2015) has tapped Spectrum Sports Management, the leading Southern California-based sports management event production and sponsorship agency, to manage two of the six hubs of events and athletic competitions of the Special Olympics World Games which will take place throughout Southern California July 25 – Aug. 2, 2015.  These two hubs will constitute 9 of the 25 sports for this summer’s competitions.

The company’s professional experience managing similar sporting events makes Spectrum uniquely qualified to manage the venues and Competition Managers as the events take place on the city streets and venues throughout the City of Long Beach, as well as the golf and equestrian events at Griffith Park.  The team’s management will ensure a great experience for the athletes and help Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) and the Games Organizing Committee create a world class setting for the Summer Games, and set a foundation for growth in the years ahead for SOSC.

Spectrum Sports Management President Mike Bone, a member of the Special Olympics Southern California Regional Council, has longstanding ties to the organization. Bone participated with the site selection team that represented the Los Angeles bid at the Athens Special Olympics World Games in 2011, which allowed him to showcase his company’s experiences and help to ensure the procurement of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles by providing a robust team proposal of management operations and professionals for the World Games.

The 2015 Special Olympics World Games will provide a significant economic impact to Los Angeles as more than 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing 177 countries will travel to the City of Angels to participate in the largest sports and humanitarian event held anywhere in the world in 2015.

“In Los Angeles we tend to take for granted the historic sports history of events that have been hosted in the City of Angels,” states Mike Bone, President, Spectrum Sports Management. “The 2015 Special Olympics World Games will be the largest sporting event to be held here since the '84 Olympic Games, and will be considerably larger than the ‘32 Los Angeles Olympics. It’s an honor and a privilege for our staff to manage many of the events for the LA2015 Games Organizing Committee, and most importantly, empower the athletes with world-class event experiences.”

The LA2015 Games Organizing Committee included Spectrum Sports Management for event management upon learning of the City’s winning bid for the games.

“Mike Bone and his company, Spectrum Sports Management, have been active participants in the Special Olympics Southern California community for years,” states Patrick McClenahan, President and CEO of LA2015.  “His company’s longstanding reputation for hosting events catering to elite athletes, such as the historic Northern Trust Open on the PGA TOUR, partnered with the hundreds of running events they have managed throughout Southern California, will ensure the 2015 World Games will be a memorable experience for Special Olympics athletes and spectators alike.”
